3 Ways To Make Your Home Office Feel More Comfortable

by Marie Cox

Do you currently work from home? If so, you may be using a spare bedroom as your work space area. If the work space area does not feel as comfortable as you would like it to feel while you complete your daily tasks, there are a few things you can do to solve that problem. After all, creating a calming and enjoyable atmosphere may help you stay productive and get more work done.

1. Renovate Your Filing Cabinets

Do you have a few filing cabinets in the office that are a standard shade of gray? You may use the cabinets to keep your files in order, but maybe you would prefer to see them in a brighter color that is more exciting and enjoyable to look at. You can easily renovate your filing cabinets by painting them with chalk paint.

There are tons of different chalk paint colors to choose from, including shades of blue, red and black. You could choose a simple shade, such as black, or add a bit of vibrancy to the office by choosing one of the brighter colors. Once the cabinets are painted, you can even jot down a few quick notes on them with a piece of chalk if you want to.

2. Choose the Right Office Chair

It may sound simple, but choosing the right office chairs is essential. It is not easy to work when you are sitting on something that is uncomfortable. If you are using an old hardwood chair or a metal chair while trying to get your work done, you may have to get up and stretch every 10-20 minutes because your back or body starts hurting. Instead of dealing with that discomfort, simply choose the right office chair. There are many different options to choose from, including cushioned chairs that offer more support for your back while you are sitting down. Some of the other options available include:

  • Ergonomic
  • Mesh
  • Leather
  • Executive

Consider choosing the best option based on your personal needs and preference. You can find these and other styles in different colors and patterns that may be perfect for your home office.

3. Recycle Your Spice Rack

Do you have an unused spice rack sitting in a closet or storage unit? If so, you can recycle the spice rack by using it as a tabletop storage unit for some of the smaller supplies you use daily. You can fill each of the spice containers with different items, such as safety pins, stamps and even mini erasers. It will come in handy to have these items at an arm's reach when you need them.

If you are working from home and have recently designated a specific area as your home office, it is important to make sure that personal space is comfortable enough for you to get your work done. These are just a few of the things you can do to make your home office more comfortable and convenient for you.
